A couple of months ago, Audi unveiled this luxurious 7 seater crossover SUV in the LA Auto Show. The latest mode of Audi’s Q series is the Audi Q5 which was showcased in the year 2016. Audi Q7 is actually built on the platform of Volkswagen Group PL71; and it is designated as the Typ 4L. As you all probably know the 7 seater SUV is more of meant for the off road purposes. But Audi, keeping in mind the design of the concept car Audi Pikes Peak Quattro, has designed the 7 seater crossover Q7 for more of on road purposes than the off road adventure. Although it has the basic minimum to be an off road vehicle; such as the air suspension whose height is adjustable and 4 wheel driving system with a central differential lock.
Audi has done much work on bringing the best possible safety to the passenger in this 7 seater crossover. But this almost went useless when Euro NCAP rated the Audi Q7 only 4 out of 5 stars in the crash test for adult occupant protection; in-spite of the fact that Audi has ESP – Electronic stability Programme and Multiple airbags with the safety electronics. Audi stated that it was a an error in design and had been fixed in the cars manufactured after that making the stars to climb up to 5. On the contrary NHTSA rated 5 out of 5 in USA after testing the Audi Q7 in both the front and side impact tests. Audi Q7 has one of the best safety systems in the category of 7 seater cars.
Cars for North America
An Audi Q7 Hybrid was released in America last year which happens to be a concept based on Q7 and is actually having an engine from 4.2 FSI and is able to provide a torque of 200 Nm and is having an electric motor. It actually runs on a Nickel-metal Hydride battery which gives the car an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/hin less nothing more than 6.8s. This particular hybrid happens to be more heavier than the petrol version of the same car. Audi has plans to offer more number of hybrid cars that are based on the Q7 platform, but again, Audi states that the number of this type of 7 seater crossover would be limited as it is currently focusing on lithium based batteries that will be used in the making of hybrids based on Q5.
Why should you be buying Audi Q7?
Keeping in mind that Q7 is Audi’s first ever 7 seater cars, it is quite obvious that Audi would have done everything possible to get good sales out of it, and having said that, lets see if there are things that would impress you into buying a new Audi Q7. This 7 seater crossover offers you enormous storage space or in other words, huge cargo space. Space combined with the extra safety for all the passengers, the price tag of the Audi Q7 might seem little out of reach for you. Beware! this is a luxury SUV car and you should go for it if you aren’t stuck by the limitations of money, because it has many features to offer to the one who affords it.
To begin with, the interiors of the Q7 are fully furnished and flush. The quality of the material used inside and the build quality in itself are worth the money that you pay. And talking about the fuel economy, with around 14-19 miles per gallon of fuel, it might not be your best buddy when it comes to fuel efficiency. However the turbo diesel version of the Q7 makes a giant leap in terms of fuel usage with numbers going up to 17-25 miles per gallon. But drawback is, it is at least $4k more expensive than the other versions of the car.
Another good thing to be told is the updated version of MMI that Audi Q7 features. MMI stands for Multimedia Interface. The MMI controls the car info and the entertainment information the moment you switch to navigation mode and lets you enjoy all the music that you love. This is among the few best 7 seater cars that you can think of buying.
